Students from Outwood Academy Portland are celebrating after receiving their phenomenal GCSE results.
Despite disruption to their studies due to the pandemic, students have continued to work hard with their education, and GCSE results day marked the culmination of their efforts.
There were several highlights for the Worksop academy, where large numbers of students achieved excellent grades. This set of results saw students make outstanding progress across a range of subjects. We are particularly proud to celebrate a record year for English Literature as well as many subjects achieving above national average: particular highlights include science (including 7 grade 9s in biology, 6 grade 9s in chemistry and 6 grade 9s in physics), modern foreign languages, expressive arts, business studies and hairdressing.
We are proud to have many individual standout students' success stories, a few to mention are; Isabelle Murry (8 Grade 9s and 1 Grade 8), Chloe Coulson (7 Grade 9s and 2 Grade 8s), William Ollier (5 Grade 9s, 4 Grade 8s and 1 Grade 7)
Isabelle said, “It was all worth it, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers. My advice for year 11 next year is to start studying one hour a day, but make sure you have time for yourself.”
Her mother commented, “She came here half way through year 7, she loved it and never looked back. Isabelle always looked forward to school because she loves to study. She’s been really happy here at Outwood Academy Portland. We are proud that she is going on to study A levels in chemistry, music, mathematics and physics”.
William Ollier said, “I’m shocked and proud that the hard work paid off. I am excited to go to Post 16 to study A levels in biology, chemistry and business studies. I hope to study medicine at university ”. His teacher, Miss Fleming commented, “You have worked so hard this year, you deserve it! ”
Finally Chloe Coulson commented, “It’s been a tough year for everyone, but we have come out the other side successfully!” We wish her well at Outwood Post 16, where she will study mathematics, further maths and computer science.
Danielle Sheehan, Principal at Outwood Academy Portland said, ‘I am bursting with pride at our students’ achievements. These last two years have been incredibly challenging for our students and staff. I have been overwhelmed by the hard work and determination that they have shown to keep going in the face of adversity. We are confident they will all prosper, with many students attending Outwood Post-16, further education, apprenticeships and exciting work opportunities. This could not have happened without our wonderful staff team, they simply do not give up on our students. This cohort has set the bar high and I am confident that every student at Outwood Academy Portland can follow in their footsteps and achieve great things.’
Julie Slater, Chief Executive Principal, Secondary, National Leader of Education said: “I am so proud of both our students and staff for their resilience and phenomenal efforts during the last two years. It is fantastic to see the wonderful success stories across the academy but these student successes would not have been possible without the brilliant support of their teachers. It really is a team effort and I am delighted for our students. I wish them all the best in the future.”
